Our students abroad: heading for Athens!

Students in the Human Rights, Security and Development Master’s programme at the Université Catholique de Lille’s Faculty of Law, led by Ioannis Panoussis and Valentina Volpe, are taking part in an international conference at the National and Kapodistrian University in Athens on 3 and 4 April 2025. The event, called ‘Vulnerabilities and Borders: Right to Asylum in Times of Crises‘ and coorganised by C3RD, will bring together European researchers and professionnals to discuss issues relating to the right to asylum and violations of fundamental rights.

Our students, Imana Chouli, Eloise Crouzet, Mathilde Huret, Carlotta Llobregat, Lucy Moore and Lallie Pogeant, will be presenting their work on the detention of minors in migration situations, the result of several months of research as part of the Legal Clinic – Greece project, which aims to extend the impact of teaching to the UE’s external borders, under the supervision of Silvia Bartolini, Associate Professor of EU Law, Head of the European LL.B. in Law, Associate Researcher at C3RD and Guest Lecturer at University of Athens.

After this conference, our students will complete an internship at the European Lawyers in Lesvos (ELIL) organisation, which provides pro bono legal assistance to asylum seekers.

This rich and formative experience, which illustrates the commitment of our students on the academic and international scenes, is also an example of our faculty’s desire to train lawyers and professionals who are sensitive to European, international and humanitarian issues, while providing them with concrete tools to act within a global framework.
