Alumni testimonials
Jean-Baptiste DEHAINE – Hospital Director
After obtaining his law degree from the FLD, Jean-Baptiste went on to do a Master 1 in public law and then a Master 2 in medical liability law. As part of this Master’s programme, he did a work placement in the legal department of the St Quentin hospital, which offered him a job as head of public procurement several months after he had completed his Master’s 2. “I hesitated to accept the position. I contacted Lina Williatte, the person in charge of my Masters 2, who advised me to accept.
Jean-Baptiste worked in this role for three years before being offered the position of hospital director. “The director of the St Quentin hospital contacted me because he needed a director for two establishments attached to his hospital centre”. So Jean-Baptiste took and passed the competitive examination for hospital attaché and director.
He is now in charge of two establishments: the Bohain-en-Vermandois retirement home (152 beds) and the Guise hospital centre (300 beds). “You might think that a management position isn’t reserved for lawyers, but my job requires a solid knowledge of the law, such as patient law and human resources”.
Mathilde BOURGOIN – Police commissioner
When she started studying at the Faculty of Law, Mathilde already had a fixed career plan: to become a police commissioner. “My many work placements strengthened my idea of joining the national police force”. When I graduated, Mathilde enrolled in the Master 1 in Public Law, followed by the Master 2 in Legal and Administrative Professions. “This Master’s offers a lot of training, both oral and written, which prepared me very well for the competitive examinations for police officer and police commissioner”. During this year of the Master’s programme, Mathilde passed both the officer’s and commissioner’s examinations.
She then joined the Ecole Supérieure National de Police (ESNP), alternating between work experience and schooling, with the aim of becoming police commissioner. Her first post was as deputy head of the Roubaix division, followed by a spell as deputy head of urban security in Lille. Mathilde is now a police commissioner with the Direction Départementale de la Sécurité Publique du Nord, and has fond memories of her years at the FLD: “I loved the community life at the FLD, and being president of the BDE for two years was a great way to develop.
Marion THEL – Project and Marketing Manager
Marion followed the European law course. After obtaining her bachelor’s degree at the FLD, she decided to enrol in a master’s 1 and then a master’s 2 in business law in partnership with EDHEC, with the aim of becoming a business lawyer. “Throughout my studies at the FLD, I did work placements in a number of law firms. However, during her Master 2 year, Marion decided to change her plans.
So she sat the entrance exam for the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Paris (ESCP-E), which she passed. “Joining a business school gave me the opportunity to do different things, and not just remain confined to the legal world”. Marion is now contract project manager at AxoDeco mobilier, a furniture distributor in France. I’m in charge of product development, responsible for results and I also set the brand’s objectives”.
Léo OLIVIER – Member of the Lille Bar
Léo OLIVIER – Member of the Lille Bar
At the end of the Masters in Health Law and Medical Liability, I joined the North-Western School of Lawyers (IXAD), and I am now a lawyer at the Lille Bar.
This Master’s programme provided an opportunity for enriching exchanges between students and professionals from different backgrounds and professional sectors.
Within the framework of the Master’s association and with the support of the FLD, we were free to organise several events combining access to rights and health (awareness-raising activities, symposium, participation in international competitions).
Today, as a lawyer at the LILLE Bar, I practise in some of the areas taught in the Master II course, both as an advisor and in litigation.
